Picking The Perfect Name For Your Dog

The dog also known as man’s best friend is said to be one of the best pets to own. They are loving, loyal and protective. They are in many aspects as a child. You feed them, bathe them and take care of them. So when you get your little pooch just like with a child the first thing that comes to mind is the perfect name.

So what are some other ways to come up with a name for the new family member in your home? Start by doing nothing. Don’t name the dog right away. Give it a day or two. Get to know your new friend and their personality. Or you can try a name for a few days and see how your buddy reacts to it. And if he’s not fond of it change it

Don’t use names similar to the normal every day commands like No, Stay, Sit, etc. Names would include Kit which sounds a lot like Sit or Joe, which is a lot, like No. So you want to stay away from those. Choose names that are easy to say. A dog’s name should be no more than one or two syllables at the most.

Some may think it’s cool to give your dog a name that’s funny such as Beer Bong or Stinky, well it’s not cool. For one, it’s not something you want to shout out in a public park when walking your dog. Do not think your dog doesn’t know when he is the butt of jokes. Dogs are very aware and sensitive. And it’s simply not a cool thing to do.

If your dog is coming into your home full-grown and already has a known name, simply keep the name the same. However, if you feel compelled to change the name make it as close to your dog’s original name as possible such as Charlie could be Karley.

But no matter what when picking the name for your dog choose one you like and one your pooch responds to. It is important when communicating your dog. Below is a list of the top 5 names for both female and male dogs for 2013.
